About Celste Alexander at Little Plates Nutrition Hello, and welcome to my food art event hosted by Raizana Tea. I am a degreed Nutritionist with a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Fresno where I studied food Science and Nutrition with a dietetics and administration option. My studies consisted of Food Science, Culinary Arts, Food Systems Management and Advanced Nutrition. Prior to my career as a college student I worked with preschool age children as lead teacher and coordinator as well as various jobs in the food industry ranging from bread baker, food preparation, server and barista. In order to support myself and my two children as a single Mother while attending school I created an online Etsy business called Odelette Vintage where I sell women’s and children’s vintage clothing as well as hand sewn children’s clothing. I have always been a very creative person and grew up in a family of artists and musicians. I enjoy painting, writing, drawing and photography. I chose to pursue a Nutrition degree because I am very passionate about preventative health with a holistic approach. Why food art? After spending six years earning a difficult degree based heavily in science with classes like organic chemistry, biochemistry and advanced nutrition I wanted to return to my creative roots and combine what I had learned with who I am. College taught me that I am a hands-on learner and have difficulty retaining information presented in a traditional lecture format, so I wanted to create a nutrition education event where people could interact and connect with food in a nontraditional way. I am passionate about community supported agriculture and with the Central Valley drought I feel our support is crucial. With the limited supply of water the local farms may be forced to produce the most lucrative crops which will limit the variety of local grown produce available to consumers. By providing these food art events I hope to educate the community about the local farms in our valley and highlight the importance of supporting them as well as having fun reconnecting with seasonal, local food and learning about their health benefits. Ultimately I hope people have fun playing with their food.
